Privacy Policy — Handcut

Effective 1 August 2026.

The short version

Handcut does not collect personal data from you. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising identifier, and no server belonging to us for your video to be sent to. Editing, captioning, optional on-device subject framing, and exporting all happen on your iPhone.

What we collect

Nothing. Nothing leaves your device to reach us. Our App Store privacy label reads “Data Not Collected”. That is a statement about what the app transmits: the app links no networking framework and contains no networking code outside Apple’s own StoreKit. On-device face/person detection used for optional framing features is described under Face data below — it is processed locally and is not collected by Handcut.

Your video, audio and captions

Your footage never leaves your device. Captions are produced by Apple’s on-device speech recognition with network recognition explicitly disabled and no fallback path.

Face data (on-device only)

Some optional editing features (for example auto-reframe and subject tracking) use Apple’s on-device Vision frameworks to detect a face or person in your video while you edit. That processing happens entirely on your device.

• What face data is processed: temporary geometric detections such as face bounding boxes / person silhouette masks derived from frames you already imported. The app does not create a biometric template, does not identify who you are, and does not build a face gallery.
• Collection: Handcut does not collect face data. Nothing about your face is uploaded to us — there is no Handcut server that could receive it.
• Use: solely to position a crop, follow a subject, or similar in-editor framing while you work on that project.
• Sharing: face data is not shared with any third party. Apple’s Vision APIs run locally; we do not send face data to Apple or anyone else for these features.
• Storage / retention: detections are ephemeral working state for the current edit session / project on your device. They are not stored in a cloud account we control. When you delete the project or uninstall the app, that local working state goes with it.
• Deletion / revoke: stop using tracking or auto-reframe, delete the project, or delete the app. Because we never receive the data, there is nothing for us to delete on a server.

Where your work lives

Your media never leaves your device. Your project structure — the small file describing your cuts and settings — syncs through your own iCloud backup, which we have no access to, so a new iPhone can restore your work.

Purchases

Purchases are handled entirely by Apple through StoreKit. Apple tells the app whether a purchase is active; nothing identifying you reaches us, because there is no “us” to reach — the app links no networking code with which to reach anyone.

When you share a video

Using the share sheet, or sending a video to another app, hands the file to software we do not control. Once it leaves Handcut it is governed by that app’s privacy policy, not this one.

Children

Handcut collects no data from anyone, of any age.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the change will be dated here. A change that introduced data collection would require a new App Store privacy label, which is visible on the listing before you install.

Reviewed by counsel? Not yet. These pages are written to match what the app actually does, clause by clause, so a lawyer has something accurate to correct rather than boilerplate to rewrite. One item needs attention before launch: the governing-law clause is distributed to 175 territories including the EU, where a non-EU trader selling to consumers carries obligations that a governing-law clause does not displace.
