Frequently asked

What do I get without paying?

4K export, keyframe animation, two video tracks so picture-in-picture works, three caption styles, and no watermark — on every tier, always. Projects, exports and video length are unlimited and always have been. Resolution is not the paywall here, and neither is basic editing capability.

What does Pro add?

Green-screen removal, additional video layers, adjustment layers and the full caption style library. Pro is a monthly or annual subscription — the annual plan starts with a free trial — or a one-time lifetime purchase if you would rather not subscribe. Current prices, in your region's currency, are shown in the app; this page deliberately does not repeat them, because a price printed here goes stale the moment it changes there.

Changed 23 August 2026: 4K export and keyframe animation used to be Pro. They are free now, permanently, for everyone — including anyone already subscribed. Nothing was taken away and nothing needs to be bought back; the page said otherwise until this date, and this line is here because a correction that is not visible is not a correction.

Do captions work offline?

Yes. Transcription runs on your iPhone using Apple’s on-device speech recognition, with no network fallback. The app links no networking code at all, so there is nothing to send your audio with. Availability depends on the language models iOS has installed on your device; if a language has no on-device model, Handcut says so before you start rather than failing partway.

Why is there no music library?

Because licensing one would mean a server, accounts and a very different app. You can add your own audio. We would rather be honest about the trade than pretend otherwise.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no sign-up, no login and no password, because there is nowhere for an account to live.

Where do my projects live? Do they sync?

Your media never leaves your device. Your project structure — the small file describing your cuts and settings — syncs through your own iCloud backup, which we have no access to, so a new iPhone can restore your work.

The media itself is deliberately excluded from that backup: a project's clips can be gigabytes, and they can be re-imported from Photos, so backing them up would consume your iCloud storage for no real benefit.

The 2-business-day reply time is a commitment, not a formality. Guideline 1.5 requires a support URL that actually offers a way to make contact; a stated response time you do not meet is worse than a slower one you do. Change it here if 2 days is optimistic.
